Joe represents the purest form of what it means to be a skateboarder in New Zealand, and he skates for nobody but himself. He has made a conscious decision to remain in New Zealand, despite the fact that he could certainly forge a prosperous career as an overseas professional skateboarder. Joe possesses a style that is a unique blend of casual and powerful, accompanied by a pleasantly low key and friendly demeanour.

The DEF skateboarding team has been hand-picked by founder Chey Ataria, and consists of the finest talent that New Zealand has to offer. This does not mean that they are talented simply by New Zealand standards, but the skills possessed by this elite group of individuals is in fact world class. Those on the team regard themselves as a tight-knit family who constantly encourage progression within the group, both in terms of skateboarding and personal development. Each skateboarder on the team possesses different strengths, but they all represent New Zealand through their skateboarding, style and overall conduct as individuals.
